Upgrade Your Computer or Optimize Your PC – Which One Do You Need?

The more we use our computers and the older our computer gets, the slower it runs.  It is something that we all notice as time passes.  Most of the time, we are more tempted to go for a computer upgrade when our computers begin to operate at a snail’s pace and even bogs down.  The question is: Do we really need the upgrade or would it be better to just optimize the PC?

Optimizing the computer basically means getting rid of the clutter that slows the machine down.  If you are using the Windows operating system, you would know that one of the components that make it work is its registry.  When we use software, the software leaves bits of data on this registry.  The same thing happens when we uninstall software and delete files.  They leave some residue on the registry.  Deleting files and uninstalling software also leave gaps in the hard disk space that can slow the PC down.

To optimize your PC, you would need to clean up your registry using a registry cleaning tool.  Such software is available for free download on the Internet, and there are so many available for you to choose.  Do not attempt to do this manually if you do not know how the registry works.  You may end up doing more damage to your computer in this way.

Defragging your hard drive will also do a lot to optimize your PC.  File fragmentation is a common problem that slows down a computer.  Defragmentation software is also readily available for download on the Internet; what it does is to bring together those file fragments and compress them together so the computer will not have a hard time reading the file.  It also frees up a bit of hard disk space.

When you optimize your PC, you ensure that your computer keeps running smoothly and quickly.  Keep it up and you will have your computer operating like it is brand new for years to come.  There is no need for you to waste your money and the planet’s resource for a new computer if you take good care of your existing one.

But if you really need a computer upgrade, it is suggested that you buy a laptop instead of a regular desktop.  Laptops are more compact and consume a lot less energy – averaging only 25 watts compared to a desktop’s 150 watts.  When you save on your energy consumption through green computing, you save not just money but also the environment.
